Maintaining Academic Honesty
At South Gate Middle School, we are trying to develop the intellectual potential of every student. In order to develop intellectual potential, academic honesty is required.
- Student may not lend or copy homework assignments
- Students may not lend or copy classwork
- Tests and quizzes are the sole responsibility of the individual student – answers are not to be shared
Teachers have the discretion to determine the type of discipline that is to be assigned within their classroom and depending on the severity and frequency of the infraction further consequences may follow.
The purpose of this statement is to encourage all students to take seriously the academic work that is required of them. It is in so doing that intellectual potential can be developed.
Certificate of Achievement
South Gate Middle School has implemented a policy regarding your child’s transition from sixth to seventh and from seventh to eighth grade. This policy is designed to emphasize the importance of achievement at each grade level and to recognize those students who meet minimum academic standards.
Sixth and seventh grade students will be eligible to receive a Certificate of Achievement and a congratulatory activity upon successful completion of the following requirements:
- Receive 50 of the possible 60 credits given on the fall and spring report cards
- Receive no more than 5 U’s, no more than 2 of which may be in cooperation
- Payment of all library and textbook debts
In the eighth grade, students must pass 10 of their twelve classes to be eligible for culmination. While this suggests that you may Fail two classes and still culminate, you cannot have both Fails in the Spring semester. In addition, if you have more than two U’s in cooperation or more than five U’s total in the Spring, you will receive your diploma, but will not be able to participate in the culmination ceremony.
Awards
South Gate Middle School has a very comprehensive Awards Program. It is designed to recognize outstanding academic achievement every eight weeks with an assembly, certificate, and Honor card. End of the year Award recipients earn certificates and trophies in recognition of academic achievement, perfect attendance, and extra-curricular activities.

Manteniendo Honestidad Academica
La Escuela Intermedia de South Gate está tratando de desarrollar el potencial intelectual de cada estudiante. Para desarrollar el potencial intellectual se necesita honestidad académica.
El Mantenimiento de Honestidad Academica Requiere Que:
- Los estudiantes no deben prestar o copiar tareas
- Los estudiantes no deben prestar o copiar el trabajo de clase
- Los exámenes y pruebas son responsabilidad ùnica de cada
estudiante. Las respuestas no deben compartirse.
Se deja a la discreción del maestro el determinar el tipo de disciplina que se asignara dentro del salon de clase y dependiendo de la severidad y frecuencia de la infracción, adicionales consecuencias serán consideradas.
El propósito de esta declaración es motivar a todos los estudiantes para que tomen seriamente el trabajo académico que se requiere de ellos. Al hacerse esto, se desarrollará el potencial intellectual.
Certificado de Logro
La Escuela Intermedia South Gate ha establecido una póliza con respecto al la transición del sexto al séptimo y del séptimo al octavo grado. Esta póliza esta diseñada para poner énfasis en la importancia del logro en cada grado y para reconocer a los alumnos que logren un nivel académico normal.
Alumnos del sexto y séptimo grado serán elegibles a recibir un Certificado de Logro y una actividad congratulatoria si logran acompletar con éxito los siguientes requisitos:
- Recibir 50 créditos de los 60 créditos que se dan en las calificaciones del otoño y primavera.
- No debe de recibir más de 5 U’s, de las cuales solo 2 pueden ser en cooperación.
- Todas las deudas de la biblioteca y libros de texto deben de ser pagadas.
En el grado 8, los alumnos tienen que pasar 10 de sus 12 clases para ser elegibles a graduarse. Aunque esto indica que pueden reprobar 2 clases y todavia graduarse, no pueden reprobar ambas clases en el semestre de primavera. Ademas, si tienen mas de dos U’s en cooperación o mas de cinco U’s en el ultimo reporte de primavera recibiran su diploma, pero no pueden participar en la ceremonia de culminación.
Premios
La Escuela Intermedia de South Gate tiene un programa muy amplio de premios. Esta designado para reconocer el logro sobresaliente de estudio de cada estudiante. Cada ocho semanas, con una asamblea, certifcado y una Tarjeta de Honor. Al final del año escolar a los ganadores se les gratifica con un certificado y trofeos en reconocimiento de su aprovechamiento academico, asistencia perfecta y actividades extras del plan de estudio.
