M. Albert
Mike Albert began enjoying history when he was an 8th grader in Mr. Gianelli's class at Fleming Junior High School. He hopes that his students are challenged to think and participate in class, and learn about their own histories.

He is a graduate of the University of Redlands, and has a Masters' in Education from National University. Mr. Albert is a National Board Certified Teacher in Early Adolescence/Social Studies-History, a 2005-2006 LAUSD Teacher of the Year, and a 2006 recipient of a Perryman Award from the Southern California Social Science Association for exemplary instruction in literacy in the Social Studies.

Mr. Albert is an Abraham Lincoln Fellow at the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum in Springfield, Illinois, and has participated in the Gilder Lehrman Institute's "The Age of Jefferson" at Monticello, the National Endowment for the Humanities seminar, "Inventing America: Lowell and the Industrial Revolution" at Lowell, Massachusetts, and "Federal Trials and Great Debates in United States History" at the Federal Judiciary Center in Washington, D.C.

Recently, Mr. Albert was chosen by the United States Department of State as a Teaching Excellence Program Fellow. He will visit Colombia in the Spring of 2011 to teach model lessons with Colombian secondary teachers and provide professional development of  teachers in Pereira, Colombia.

He also works with other teachers as a portfolio instructor with the District Intern program, a support provider for Nation Board Candidates with The Support Network, and as an instructor for Social Studies and History in the Verification Process for Special Settings (VPSS) program.
